What works, what doesn't, and what's next
Kopi Kia is a one-person side project, so this page says plainly what is finished and what is still held together with tape. Last updated 24 August 2026.

Playable Now
15 itemsShipped, tested and running in production at kopikia.lol.
-
10-level hawker campaign
Tiong Bahru to Changi Village — ten real Singapore hawker centres, each with its own earnings target, shift length and three-star thresholds.
-
16 authentic drinks
Kopi, Kopi-O, Kopi-C, Kopi Kosong, Siew Dai, Peng, the full Teh range, Yuan Yang, canned sodas and dispenser Bandung & lime juice.
-
Three working stations
Brew bar with kopi sock and teh pot, canned drinks fridge, and the syrup dispenser — each with its own tab and toolbar.
-
Real-time 3D glass mug
A Three.js WebGL mug renders your drink as you build it: liquid layers stacking up as you pour, ice cubes bobbing on the surface, steam off a hot cup, and drag-to-rotate. Falls back to the 2D mug if WebGL is unavailable.
-
Five regulars with preferences
Mdm Tan, Uncle Lim, Aunty Lee, Brother Ah Seng and Student Kenneth each order from their own favourites, with hand-drawn vector avatars.
-
Story mode for all 10 chapters
Uncle Lim walks you through every new hawker centre with a scripted dialogue beat and an equipment unlock notice.
-
Voiceovers for three characters
Uncle Lim, Aunty Lee and Ah Seng have recorded intro lines that play over their story cards.
-
Upgrade shop
Five career upgrades, all wired into gameplay: faster pours, coffee and iced-drink payout boosts, a longer customer timer, and the golden mug skin.
-
Kopitiam Hall of Fame
Local leaderboard with a saved hawker name, best shift earnings and highest level reached.
-
Recipe cheat sheet
In-game modal grouping every recipe into Kopi, Teh, Soda and Dispenser, reachable from the menu and mid-shift.
-
Kopitiam soundscape
Looping hawker centre ambience plus synthesised pours, register dings, error buzzes and shop fanfares built on the Web Audio API.
-
Cinematic boot sequence
Studio logo, then the vintage 9:16 Nanyang poster with tap-to-start, then a 3-2-1 shift countdown.
-
Installable PWA
Web app manifest, favicons, apple-touch-icon and standalone display — add it to your home screen and it runs full screen.
-
iOS app shell
Capacitor project with the full Nanyang app-icon set, launch screen, privacy policy and App Store export-compliance flags in place.
-
Social preview cards
Open Graph and Twitter card metadata so the cover art renders when the game is shared on any platform.
In Development
5 itemsActively being worked on — some of it half-wired in the codebase today.
-
App Store submission
The iOS build is assembled and the validation blockers are cleared. What is left is the store listing, screenshots and review.
-
Bundling Three.js locally
The 3D mug engine pulls Three.js from a CDN, so a slow or blocked network silently drops you to the flat 2D mug — including inside the iOS app, where every other asset is bundled locally. Vendoring it is the fix.
-
Haptic feedback
The Capacitor haptics plugin is installed but not yet called. Pours, serves and mistakes should all have their own tap.
-
Voiceovers for the last two regulars
Mdm Tan and Student Kenneth are still silent — their intro lines are written but not recorded.
-
Online leaderboard
Scores currently live in browser storage, so the Hall of Fame is per-device. A shared board is the next persistence layer.
On the Backlog
5 itemsIdeas with no committed date. Order changes often.
-
Endless shift mode
Free-play beyond level 10 with escalating queues, for score chasing rather than campaign progress.
-
Android build
Capacitor already supports it; it is a matter of adding the platform and reworking the safe-area handling.
-
More of the kopitiam menu
Kaya toast, half-boiled eggs and Milo Dinosaur — the other half of a real hawker breakfast order.
-
Golden mug in 3D
The golden mug upgrade currently changes payouts and the 2D skin, but the WebGL mug does not gild yet.
-
Daily challenge
One fixed seeded shift per day, same orders for everyone, single score submission.
